IWCA VII: IN MEMORY OF CHARLES S. MORRIS (1952-2025)
Date: 2026 August 14 (-15?)
Venue: Madrid Planetarium, Madrid, Spain
Following our long list of Workshops (see the list posted here) for decades, an international meeting on cometary astronomy will be held in Madrid, Spain, on 2026 August 14 (Friday), two days after the total solar eclipse that will be visible across Spain (on Wednesday, 2026 Aug. 12). The meeting will be co-sponsored by the ICQ and by the Madrid Planetarium (other co-sponsors are welcome!).
We aim to have a good slate of speakers from both the professional and amateur community, as is the goal for the IWCA series. Potential speakers are encouraged to contact Dan Green as soon as possible with proposed talk title and abstract. We will have a mixture of panel discussions (by topic), widely open for audience participation, and short talks of length 5-15 minutes; there may be one or two invited talks of length 30 minutes. The language of the talks will be English, for furthest reach among an international audience.
Also, if you are interested in attending this meeting, please let us know via email (icqcsc at eps.harvard.edu or icqimages at gmail.com). Please contact us as soon as possible to let us know your interest in attending the meeting, so that we can plan for size of meeting room and also to determine if we should add a second date (Saturday, Aug. 15) to the Workshop.
Astronomers who have indicated their intention to attend IWCA VII: Jose Guilherme de S. Aguiar (Brazil); Bryce Bolin (USA); Jordi Camarasa (Spain); Tao Chen (China); D. W. E. Green (USA); Nick James (UK); Mark Kidger (Spain); Joseph N. Marcus (USA); Maik Meyer (Germany); Alex Scholten (Netherlands); Kacper Wierzchos (USA); Qicheng Zhang (USA).
It is advised to get hotel rooms soon because of the summer (holiday) period combined with the total solar eclipse, which will see many additional international visitors. We will post suggested hotels near the Planetarium in the near future for Workshop attendees.
